The Broncos started strong in the big game, going up 14-0 by the middle of the second quarter, both touchdowns where passes by Peyton Manning, (one was to Wes Welker, the other to Eric Decker) but the Seahawks didn't give up yet. Two plays later, Marshawn Lynch broke 3 tackles in a 73- yard touchdown run, and with less than a 30 seconds left, the Broncos were back at it again. Broncos: 14
The Broncos received the ball in the second half, and were driving down the field, when the Legion of Boom (A nickname for Seattle's secondary) got another interception. This one was caught by Earl Thomas, who was immediately tackled by an alert Wes Welker. The Seahawks now had the ball on about the 50 yard line, with 10:38 left in the 3rd Quarter. As soon as Russell Wilson snapped the ball on the first play of the drive, he was blitzed by a plethora of Bronco defenders, and barely got out a screen route to Lynch. Lynch had open field in front of him, and, as a result of the Blitzing Broncos, no unblocked player was between him and the goal line. Marshawn Lynch tauntingly walked into the end zone, met by a monsoon of Skittles. Breathless teammates were soon to follow in the celebration.
The Broncos responded by a 5 minute long drive that was capped off by a Knoshawn Merino 4- yard touchdown run. The next drive the Seahawks went 3 and out, punting on 4th down. The Broncos called for a fair catch inside the 20 yard line. On the first play of the drive, Peyton Manning was lined up under center, then motioned in to Shotgun, while yelling out "Omaha, Omaha!" He then dropped back, and threw to Demaryius Thomas, who because of a coverage mistake was wide open. Manning hit him in stride and Thomas trotted in for a touchdown.
The 4th Quarter was scoreless until the last 3 minutes, in which Russell Wilson took the Seahawks on a 93-yard drive, which ended in a rushing touchdown for Wilson, on a read option play.
Peyton Manning was struggling, and was forced to pass the ball away on first down, and was sacked by Brandon Mebane on 2nd Down. On 3rd down and 17 Peyton Manning threw a 20 yard pass to Eric Decker, for the first down. the next play was a draw play to Merino, who was met in the backfield for a one yard loss by a gang of Seattle "Sea-fenders". Two incomplete passes later, the Broncos were forced to kick a 35 yard field goal, that split the uprights. With 1:45 Seconds left, the Seahawks were marching down the field. After 5 first downs, it was now first and goal from the ten yard line, and the clock running with 20 seconds left. Russell Wilson scanned the field, but no one was open and he was forced to pass the ball away. There was now 14 seconds left, and with 2 time-outs, there was time for about one or two plays, and time for a field goal to tie the game up. Russell Wilson set up in shotgun, and called hike. He then hit Lynch for a screen pass that he ran into the end zone!! With 9 seconds left the Seahawks were up 31-35.
On the kick return, the Broncos tried but were unsuccessful in returning the kickoff for a touchdown as time ran out! The Seahawks are World Champions!!!!!!
Marshawn Lynch received MVP Honors
