This past year in sports has been insane. From Cinderella Stories, to buzzer beaters, without a doubt I can say this is one of the craziest years in sports I have ever witnessed. In honor of this past year, and of the ESPYs, I have decided to make my own awards, The Jack's Take Sports Awards.
Best Male Athlete
Peyton Manning
Peyton Manning is one of the greatest football players ever to play the game, and is not slowing down, even at 38 years of age. Manning is an amazing player and maybe even a better leader, who always helps and encourages his teammates. Last year he broke 6 NFL Records and was named NFL MVP. Peyton Manning was also named the number 1 player in the NFL.com countdown. Manning is one of the greatest football players ever to play the game, and is not slowing down, even at 38 years of age. Most Inspirational Athlete
Kevin Durant
Kevin Durant is not just a great basketball player. He is much more than that. Durant is a leader that inspires people both on and off the court, with both his actions and his words. Durant is constantly donating and encouraging others to do the same. For example, when Oklahoma was hit with a tornado back in 2013, Durant helped hands on and donated $1 Million to the American Red Cross to assist with disaster relief. KD's donation was matched by both the Thunder and the NBA Players Association. In all, Durant's gift inspired people to raise about $7.5 Million, and about $1 Million worth of products and apparel was donated to Oklahoma residents that were affected by the storm by Nike, who were encouraged to donate by Durant. Durant said it this way in his humble MVP speech: "Basketball is just a platform in order for me to inspire people."
Play of The Year
Chris Davis' Field Goal Return
Play of The Year
Chris Davis' Field Goal Return
This year was filled with insane plays; Lillard's Buzzer Beater, Robin van Persie's diving header World Cup Goal, Sherman's Deflection, and many more, but none of these plays come close to Davis' Field Goal Return vs. Alabama. With the score tied, and 1 second left, Alabama decided to kick a field goal for the win. The kick fell short, and Chris Davis dodged Bama defenders, and returned the kick 109 yards to win the Iron Bowl and give Auburn a chance at the National Championship. This play is nicknamed the "Kick Six"
