Nowadays, it seems like the NBA is much different from the way it used to be. The shorts, are longer, the game is faster, and the scores are higher, but I think the main thing that sets the modern times apart from even 20 years ago is free agency. Back then, if a player was drafted to a team, it was likely that he would stay on that team until either being traded or retiring. Now, it seems like every off season news reports are filled with articles about which athlete is meeting with which team, and who is going where. I personally enjoy the more frequent free-agency moves. It makes the NBA more unpredictable, and in any season, a team can go from worst to first (or first to worst) depending on their free agency moves.
